Fireproof

So this past Thursday night you guys decided to watch the movie Fireproof. What’d ya think? Did it engage a new perspective about marriage for you as a college student?

It’s so hard to see married couples around us that either make it or don’t. What is it that works for some, but perhaps is missing for others? Ultimately- it’s each partner’s relationship with God. Hopefully you know what to pray and look for in a spouse – and if those values are prioritized correctly (not just cute, humorous or get twitter in your stomach), the relationship has a great chance to follow God’s plan for marriage.

ACTION STEP

In a relationship, but unsure of how to approach it’s potential? Is this person the “right one?”  Email the director of MBSF, Bob, to either speak with him privately, suggest “relationship to proposal” as an open discussion at an upcoming meeting or even get in touch with the pastor of MBSF’s sponsoring church.

Thursday nights…

Posted in Social Calendars on February 23, 2009 by stillwatermbsf

…are the nights to be out with your friends during college. Oh sure- Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are notorious to pool the 21 crowd, but nothing like Thursday. I mean, let’s face it- a conscious can leave you short of “a good time” if you are out on Wednesday night (when you normally, if raised faithfully, would/should be in church, especially if you were back home with the parents) and Friday and Saturday are unpredictable as you or a large slice of your friend circle head home to be with family. Yes- Thursdsay nights can be some of the most memorious occassions of your time at college. Sadly, though, many students feel that their choices are limited and get eventually sucked in to the “wrong crowd.” Many can later reflect back on those years and those seemingly wonderful memories and have a hard time laughing and joyfully sharing their memory lane because, as maturing Christians, are embarrassed by their activities as a 20-something Christian in those good old college days.

So what do you do? Go anyway and just not drink? Hmmm… well, Satan’s got you where he needs you to tempt you. Or better yet- wreck your testimony to that girl down the way in your apartment complex that you’ve shyly witnessed to…

What if you had a place to hang that night with other socially conscious college kids that also had a focus on Him? You know… pizza, movies, pool, games, deep discussions that you can only have with peers, or, if you’re not already betrothed, meet like-minded potentials for the future role of Mister or Misses.  Listen for it… the choir… “Hallelujah!” MBSF may be just what He ordered for you… Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m.  Want to know more?

TAKE ACTION

Think about the hoops you go through to maintain your social connections? Could it be a topic for an upcoming short devotional at our next meeting? What kind of interactive activities do you enjoy? Keep in mind that your time spent at MBSF should be fun – but more importantly – we want to help you maintain a connection to Christ. Turn your Thursday nights from a moral dilemma into a social haven that also allows you a chance to examine any issues that you’re dealing with…
